How it Works
1.
Register by completing the membership commitment form and return to us by email or bring to a meeting.
2.
Each member commits to donating $100 per meeting (3 meetings per year). All meetings are conducted in one hour or less!
3.
Members that are in good standing may submit a Charity Nomination Form to nominate an organization for consideration at a meeting.
4.
Three charities/organizations will be randomly selected. The nominating members of three randomly selected organizations will make a 5 minute presentation about their chosen charity to the group. There will be a 2-minute Q&A period.
5.
Each member will then vote for one of the three organizations. After votes are tallied, each member will e-transfer $100 (please include your name in the etransfer message)to the organization who received the most votes. The selected organization will receive the group donation!
6.
Members who did not vote for the selected organization agree to make their donation regardless. Members who are unable to attend a meeting are required to give her cheque to a friend or another member to deliver on her behalf.
7.
Organizations under consideration must be registered charities that serve the community of Kawartha Lakes and provide individual tax receipts to contributing members.
8.
Any organization not selected at one meeting may be nominated at a subsequent meeting. A chosen organization will be eligible for nomination after 24 months.
9.
Ties will be decided by further votes. If a tie persists, the membership will vote again and choose between the tied organizations.
10.
The selected organization must agree not to give out member information to any third parties except for tax purposes and agree not to solicit for further donations.
11.
Each meeting will open with a 5 minute update on how the funds donated at the previous meeting were used by the organization.
Frequently Asked Questions
WHICH CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION?
In order to be considered at a meeting, the organization must be based in the City of Kawartha Lakes Area (Lindsay, Bobcaygeon & Fenelon Falls) and it must be a registered not-for-profit or charitable organization able to provide tax receipts for donations. It must be previously established (no start-ups). No national or international charities, programs or organizations will be considered at this time as the current focus is on contributing to our local community. An organization that is selected for group donation may not be considered again until 1 year has passed. Any member wishing to submit a charitable organization for consideration must submit the Charity Nomination Form at least 1 week prior to the scheduled meeting.
IS MY DONATION TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
Yes. Only registered not-for-profit and charitable organizations will be sponsored by the group. Cheques are written directly to the charitable organization and NOT to 100 Women Kawartha Lakes. Tax receipts will be issued directly by the charitable organization.
HOW IS THE ORGANIZATION THAT RECEIVES THE GROUP DONATION CHOSEN?
A member who has signed the Commitment Form can put the name of a local organization into the hat for a random drawing at the meeting. Three organizations will be randomly selected from the hat.
The nominating members will come up and give a short 5 minute presentation as to why the organization they are nominating should receive the donation and then spend 2 minutes for Q & A. We encourage members to participate by submitting the names of local, needy, charitable organizations!
WHAT IF I CANNOT ATTEND A MEETING?
If a member cannot attend a meeting, please e-transfer $100 to info@100womenkawarthalakes.ca or mail the $100 cheque (addressed to 100 Women Kawartha Lakes) to Karen Szostak at 65 Eldon Road, Little Britain K0M 2C0.
Please note that even if a member cannot attend the meeting she can still participate in voting by completing a Proxy Vote Form with the name of the person who will be voting on her behalf. Alternatively, the member can contact a member of the Executive with information regarding her choices. The Executive member will vote on her behalf.
HOW LONG DO THE MEETINGS LAST?
Meetings are intended to be very short and no longer than 60 minutes. There is however an opportunity to socialize after the meeting.
DOES ANY OF MY DONATION GO TO YOUR ADMINISTRATION COSTS?
Not at all! 100 Women Who Care is organized and operated entirely by volunteers. Our meeting space has been graciously donated by The Pie Eyed Monk as are other services. 100% of the money raised at our meetings goes directly to the selected organization!
CAN I JUST SEND THE DONATION TO THE CHARITY MYSELF?
Because the goal of 100 Women Kawartha Lakes is to make a large donation on behalf of the whole group, the answer is no. We want to be able to support this endeavor and give $10,000+ dollars at a time to make a large impact in our community with each member’s donation being part of the larger donation. This is the power of joining forces! We also need to be able to track your donations so that you get credit for the donation and remain eligible for submitting charities and voting at meetings.
HOW DO CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES CHARITIES GET IN THE RUNNING?
Get women to sign up to be members of 100 Women Kawartha Lakes!
Each member of 100 Women Kawartha Lakes is allowed to nominate one local charity of their choosing. The charity must serve the local population and be a registered charity to be eligible for consideration. The member must submit her completed nomination form at least one week prior to the event in order to have it vetted as eligible and added to the “hat” from which we randomly draw three names.
DO I HAVE TO NOMINATE A CHARITY?
Nomination of a charity is a privilege of membership, not an obligation. You may come to the meetings to vote and make your donation if that is your wish, but consider more actively supporting one of the many worthy causes that abound in our community by making a nomination.
IS MEMBERSHIP CAPPED AT 100 WOMEN?
Not at all. 100 is just the beginning! The more women, the greater the impact! Please spread the word.
